How much of our transportation emissions come from Aircraft?

Aircraft emissions account for about 3 percent of the world’s total man-made emissions. Within transportation, which itself contributes to about 1/4 of the world’s CO2 emissions, aircraft travel accounts for 13 percent.

Though these numbers may seem small and therefore insignificant, they are anything but. High-altitude emissions are disproportionately damaging to the environment when compared with emissions from transport on the ground. Nitrogen oxide from jet-engine exhausts lead to the formation of ozone, which contributes to global warming.
