How much of the original rain forest is left?

Rainforests used to cover 14% of the world’s land. Now only 6% of rainforests is left with a dire outlook of the last remaining forests to last less than 40 years. Most of the disappearance is for logging or landuse (farming). Approximately 50,000 plant and animal species per year are said to have been lost due to deforestation. Medicines are made from many rainforest compounds, so future cures may be lost. Centuries ago, 10 million indians lived in the Amazon, and today only 200,000. Cultural diversity and significance, sadly, has waned dramatically.
