The amount of oil it takes to product a pound of beef can vary. It depends on how far its being transported, what kind of food the cow eats, how its raised etc. Cornell University did some research on the subject and found that a feed lot steer takes 284 gallons of oil and a free range steer is around 13.83 gallons.
