How much oil is left in the tar sands in Canada?

The oil sands in Canada are estimated to contain over 1.7 trillion barrels, 8 times what Saudi Arabia is estimated to have. In 2011 production levels reached 1.3 million barrels per day. This may be scaled back in 2012 because of falling oil prices. Oil extraction from oil sands is more expensive than normal oil because of the heat needed from natural gas during the extracting process.

It is estimated that there is enough oil in the Canadian oil sands to support the United States for over 100 years.
