The tar sands project, known as the Keystone Pipeline and proposed Keystone XL Pipeline, will transport synthetic crude oil and diluted bitumen from Alberta, Canada to refineries in Texas. The Keystone Pipeline can currently deliver nearly 590,000 barrels of oil to Patoka, Illinois and Cushing, Oklahoma. If approved and upon completion of the Keystone XL expansion, the pipeline will be able to transport 1.3 million barrels of oil throughout North America.
