Hybrid cars are much more efficient than fuel cars because hybrid technology uses electric battery power during city driving, while fuel cars are at their most inefficient, and they use gasoline power at higher speeds, which is when fuel cars are at their most efficient. The Toyota Prius is the most fuel efficient hybrid- it gets 51 mpg/city and 48 mpg/highway. The most recent figures (from 2008) found that the average fuel car gets 31.5 miles per gallon.
