How much more efficient are cars now than they were in the 60’s?

    The average miles per gallon of a car in the 1960’s was around 15. Now, the average is at around 20 mpg for regular cars, and 33 mpg for the fuel efficient cars. Therefore the increase in efficiency is between 5-17 mpg.
