How much more efficient is 5/8 inch drywall over other thicknesses?

    The ‘R’ value of 5/8″ drywall is .56 as opposed to an ‘R’ value of .45 for 1/2″ drywall.

    This is not a significant difference, when compared to the fiberglass insulation which should be installed in the wall initially, with an ‘R’ value of 11.0

    Drywall’s thermal insulation properties are not spectacular – the main benefit is acoustic insulation, potential fire insulation and aethetic.
