How much more food do we need to produce than we had to in the 80’s?

Purely by the population figures, the population grew from 4.4 billion in 1980 to 4.8 billion in 1985 to 6.7 billion in 2008. So that’s an increase of 66% from the beginning and 72% from the middle of the 80’s, so food supply has to grow accordingly (assuming the consumption per person did not change much).
