Since 2005, the US government has provided a tax subsidy of 45 cents for every gallon of ethanol blended into gasoline.  This totaled $6 billion dollars last year.  It is expected to total $7.6 billion dollars this year.  This subsidy expires in December of this year, and many people are fighting its continuation.
