It is difficult to say since the funding for invasive species control comers from so many different places, but in 2000, the Department of the Interior, which is in charge of the National Park Services, calculated that “Invasive species cost our Nation’s economy an estimated $123 billion annually and are second only to habitat destruction in threatening extinction of native species.” Currently, the National Parks Services estimates that nearly 6500 invasive species have been documented in national parks alone.
