Due to the high cost of building tidal wave generators, completion of a system can take upwards of a decade. Although once up and running, the cost to run a tidal wave generator is relatively low. A proposal for the “Severn Barrage” from Somerset to Wales would cost 15 billion (http://www.darvill.clara.net/altenerg/tidal.htm). The U.S. Department of Energy has spent 18 million dollars on wave energy development projects.
