The 2007 profits of oil companies such as Shell, ChevronTexaco, ConocoPhillips, CP and Exxon Mobil, combined to a total $123.9 billion. As of August 9, 2008, the first half profits had amounted to $80.9 billion and were on track to reach more than $160 billion by year’s end.
