Rigibson and langg hit it on the head. Also, if you are referring to the mercury in fish, which has been a hot topic in recent years, the effect is minimal, from what I understand. However, if one is exposed to elevated levels of mercury, then he or she may suffer birth defects, rashes, or death in extreme cases.
