About 150 million acres. This is all from wikipedia: “There are currently 2,205 preservations in the United States.” And “Since President Theodore Roosevelt designated Florida’s Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge as the first wildlife refuge in 1903, the System has grown to more than 150 million acres, 584 national wildlife refuges and other units of the Refuge System, plus 37 wetland management districts.” but I confirmed it from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service Webpage, the link is below!

In North America, there are many wild life sanctuaries.  There are many bird sanctuaries in Canada, as this country plays an important role in protecting migratory birds.  The very first migratory bird sanctuary was created in Canada after the Migratory Birds Convention Act was passed in 1917.
