How much illegal logging goes on around the world? What can be done to stop it?

Illegal logging is a serious problem, that is unfortunately very widespread. It is estimated that 62% of the tropical wood imported to the UK comes from potentially illegal sources. In Brazil, it is estimated that nearly 80% of the timber being exported comes from illegally logged sources.

Greenpeace is running an anti-illegal logging campaign, you can find out how to get involved here. Illegal logging can be stopped by closer inspections of lumber sources by importing nations, and refusal to buy lumber from questionable sources.
