All of Hawaii is actually formed by volcanic rock. The islands were formed by multiple eruptions from multiple volcanoes formed at that geolocal hot spot. No eruptions have occured in Hawaii after the 18th century.
The other answer is in error; there certainly have been eruptions in Hawaii (specifically, the island of Hawaii) after the 18th century; eruptions of Kilauea have been more or less continuous from 1983 to the present.
