In 2000 the worlds the annual rise of carbon concentration rose by 2.1 ppm (part per million). This would add up to 21 ppm by 2010. Atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide in 2000 was around 175 ppm and it would be projected to increase to 196 by 2010. Scientists argued that the critical carbon concentration that has to be avoided is 350 ppm.
