I haven’t been able to find data on 2009 (perhaps it’s too early), but here’s REN21’s report that includes complete data on 2008. The world’s photovoltaics capacity has grown by 5.4 gigawatt to 13 GW (71% increase). Concentrating solar thermal power saw expansion as well, by 0.06 GW to 0.5 GW total (14% increase). Solar water and space heating added 19 GW to end up with a total of 145 GW (15% increase). Looks like photovoltaics are definitely seeing a huge expansion, with the largest additions in Spain, followed by Germany (who is still in the lead by total capacity).
