Fuel produced form bitumen deposits known as oil sands, or, tar sands, releases two to four times as many greenhouse gases as other fossil fuels.  Due to the enormous amount of resources used to produce these fuels – particularly concerning the Alberta Oil Sands – it is considered to be the most detrimental fuel on the planet.  It is estimated that oil sands contributes to around five percent of Canada’s total GHG emissions.  Since 1990, Canada’s emissions have increased by 26.2%.
