Lets consider that the Federal Department of Tranportation placed mpg regulations on passenger cars and light SUVs/trucks with an average 27.3 mpg for 2011 production models. Considering that higher gas prices do not hinder driving distance for most people this will help curb gas usage in the states. According to the EPA the average mpg consumption for all car classes was 19.4 mpg.
