How much energy goes to power television sets in the U.S.?

The average plasma tv uses about 338 watts of energy.  Multiply that by the nearly 700 million televisions in America and that’s about 250 billion watts.  While that is a very rough estimate, it’s needless to say that Americans use a large amount of energy just watching their favorite sitcoms.
