How much water gets taken out of the Colorado river?

    Approximately 3.1 million acre-feet of water is diverted away from the Colorado River and into the Southwest every year. Los Angeles itself, under reclamation acts, is entitled to as much as 4.4 million acre-feet of water per year from the Colorado River but sometimes uses 5.37 million acre-feet per year. All of this water diversion away from the Colorado River costs about $2.4 billion annually.
