174,930,000,000 gallons of fuel were consumed in 2006 by cars, buses, and trucks all together. 74,983,000,000 of those gallons were just from passenger cars.
In 2008, domestic flights in the United States burned about 12,415,300,000 gallons of jet fuel. Make it 17,960,200,000 gallons of jet fuel if you include international flights.
That is a ton of fuel, it will be interesting to see if the introduction of hybrids and electric cars will change those numbers considerably.
