How much fuel does a renewable energy plant save?

Good question, Carter.  If we use renewable energy instead of coal power plants (the most popular method of producing electricity) then we can save a lot of coal.  I found that a typical coal power plant (which is about 500 megawatts) burns about 1.4 million tons of coal every year and that in the US, there are about 600 coal power plants.  That means that if we replaced all of this with renewable energy, we would prevent about 840 million tons of coal from being burned as fuel every year.

    Hope this helps!
