How much fuel do nuclear plants use?

    Nuclear fission reactors use fuel rods that must be replaced once the rods in the reaction lose potency. The spent rods are reprocessed or stored in nuclear waste disposal facilities. Compared to other forms of energy production, nuclear plants use relatively little fuel.
