How much food do we send to Africa to try and help out?

By “we” I assume you mean the United States. In fiscal year 2008, the US Department of Agriculture recorded that 1,968,800 metric tons of food were donated to African countries under a host of programs, including public/private programs, totaling $847,090,800 worth of material. These statistics probably do not include food aid given by purely private charities and organizations, which is considerable, and aid given to Africa by other countries or intergovernmental agencies such as the United Nations, which seeks to deliver food to Africa under several different programs.
