In India, I understand there is quite a heirarchy of classes…so how much an “average” person eats depends if that person is an average poor or rich person, while asking what the average consumption is in India shows an average of both classes.
The National Sample Surveys showed in 2003 that there was a long-term decline in per-capita calorie consumption. They estimated consumption in urban areas to be about 2156 calories per day, compared to 2149 in rural India.
