We have used roughly 97 quadrillion BTUs on average in the past 4 years. In 2007, the total energy consumption in the United States was 101.53 quadrillion BTUs and the figure dropped slightly to 99.40 quadrillion BTUs in 2008. It was even lower, at 94.58 quadrillion BTUs in 2009, and even though this year is not over yet, the projected usage for 2010 is 97.57 quadrillion BTUs. If you look at the numbers from the link I provided, you can see that the amount of renewable energy consumed is slowly rising every year.
