During this year’s Earth Hour, Delhi (the capital of India) reported a 1000MW dip in power demand. In Canada, Toronto’s power consumption decreased 15 percent. In the US, approximately 80 million people turned off their lights, thought the exact amount of energy saved was not disclosed. It’s important to keep in mind, too, that the WWF sees Earth Hour as more of a symbol than a way to save energy.
This year’s earth hour, 2010, was reported to be the largest so far. Vietnam reportedly saved 500,000 kWh (three times the amount saved in 2008) during the hour, which should give you an idea of this year’s increased impact.
