It is estimated that 4.4 million barrels where lost during the 87 day spill. Originally, BP claimed that 1,000, then 19,000, then 69,000 barrels were lost per day. It is difficult to measure the exact amount, but it was definitely a costly spill, not only to the industry, but to the environment as well.
