First of all, large amounts of oil are used as the main component of plastic bags. Once the oil is harvested, it’s taken to large refining factories. There, additional chemicals are added to make the bags which also requires a lot of electricity. After that, trucks are needed to ship the bags all over the country. Once you’re done with your bag, it will most likely go to a landfill. If that sounds like a lot of energy to you, consider taking a reusable cloth bag to the grocery next time.
