How much energy per pound of material can Nuclear energy produce?

Well that depends on the material.  The calculations I ran were for Uranium based nuclear energy.  It’s estimated that 1 gram of uranium produces 144 megajoules of energy.  Converting grams to pounds and megajoules to watts, you come up with about 18 million watts.  That’s just north of what it takes to run the average american household for a year.
