PG&E currently produces roughly 1/3 of it’s energy from renewable resources, 14.4% of which is recognized as renewable under the California’s Renewable Portfolio Stardard (RPS) Program. The bill which was signed into law in 2006, requires electric companies to procure 20% of their energy sales from renewable sources by 2010. PG&E is actively signing contracts with solar, wind, and hydroelectric companies to reach the 20% mark, which they claim will be met sometime in the next three years.
