According to the US Environmental Prtoection Association, approximately 3% of the nation’s energy goes into drinking water and wastewater treatment. This is the equivalent of about 56 billion killowatt hours (kWh). Also, according to the Water Energy Technology Team (WETT) of the Department of Energy, about 1/4 to 1/2 of the energy consumed by major U.S. cities goes into the treatment of water.
