It depends on where the tidal energy is being harnessed from. On average, tidal flows, which occur twice daily convert about 40 percent of the potential energy into actual energy, which is not a lot when you consider hydroelectric dams convert 70-100 percent into energy. However, normal sized generators in rather average conditions can generate up to 20-25 megawatts of power per tidal flow.
