Solar farm sizes vary based on solar exposure, demand, and the desired size of the venture. It takes about 4.9 solar panels to produce 1 kilowatt of energy. A 740-solar-panel farm, like the one located on the Colorado Rocky Mountain School campus in Carbondale, is capable of producing about 150 kilowatts, while taking up no more than ½ acre. Green Energy Collective of CO is undertaking a quite larger project – proposal to build a 10,000 -panel solar farm on a 7-acre allotment, capable of producing 2 megawatts. The venture is aimed to provide an alternative energy source for home/business owners restricted by inefficient orientation, large trees, homeowner restrictions, etc.
