I couldn’t find an exact number on how much energy is used per day by the Empire State Building, but I did find out that the amount of energy used equates to that used by 40,000 single family homes per day. The new sustainable retrofitting project, scheduled to be completed in 2013, supposedly will reduce the energy usage by 38.4% which comes out to a $4.4 million savings annually. To put it in perspective, these changes will be the equivalent of removing 25,000 cars off the road for the next 15 years. I’ll post again if I find an actual number though.
