how much energy is consumed for a single google search?

A single Google search can supposedly use about 7 grams of CO2. There is a lot of debate as to whether or not Google is actually a green organization. Since Google’s data centers are hidden from the public eye, not a whole lot is known on how green they may or may not be. Since they are such a huge super-corporation they are likely responsible for immense amounts of CO2 emissions, but they claim to have some of the “most energy efficient data centers in the world”. In fact, the Senior Vice President Urs Hölzle claims that “in the time it takes to do a Google search, your own personal computer will use more energy than Google uses to answer your query”.
