Trees comprise only 29.6% of the land area. Fourteen percent of the earth was once covered by rainforests. Through deforestation, that number has shrunk to a mere 6%. It would take thousands of years for the forests to recover, yet it is estimated that rainforests might disappear entirely within the next forty.
