Seimens does not advertise the cost of their windmills unfortunately. But according to one source, a Seimens 2.3 MW windmill will cost $5.75 million installed. Considering the overall utility factor is 22%, then you’re only receiving 4,433 MWh/yr of generation. It sounds like a lot, but at commercial 5 cents/kWh, it’s only $200k/year in revenue. This means it would take about 29 years to pay off the windmill. Of course, large amounts of tax incentives are currently available in the United States and other countries to help make windmills more affordable.
