Nike seems to be criticized more for its corporate social responsibility than it’s environmental responsibility, although, athletic shoes do requires the use of synthetic materials and harmful solvents and nike is the world’s largest athletic shoe manufacturer. However, Nike did just come out with a line of shoes called Nike Considered, which are supposed to be more sustainable. Apparently all the material comes from within 200 mi of the factory, reducing the impact of transportation on the environment. Solvent use is also said to be reduced by up to 80%. The shoes also use less adhesives by incorporating interlocking parts, and they are recyclable through a recycling program sponsored by Nike called Reuse-A-Shoe.
