How much does the Japanese government give to their public transportation industry?

Finding a precise dollar amount is difficult, as the government apparently doesn’t disclose that information. However, the competition fostered by public and private transit companies allows the Japanese government to control spending – their citizens are granted the opportunity to travel as they wish and prices won’t be exorbitant either way, because both the public and private sectors need to stay within a reasonable price range.
