It takes slightly less than one pint of water to freeze into one pound of ice. Water does not change in mass when it freezes, though it does change in volume and density. To obtain any specific weight of water, use an identical weight worth of water. A pound of water takes up just less than a pint, and will still weight one pound after it freezes.
