Accurate measurement methods by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and other institutions have proposed two measurements. One rate is taken from 1979 and onward, and the calculated rate is 7.8% per decade shrinkage in Arctic ice area. If adjustments are made for a more recent period, then the rate comes out to 9.1% of ice loss per decade.
