This depends on a lot of factors. I would imagine that people who were older teenagers and adults in the early to mid 1990’s might be rather knowledgeable about the EV1, especially those in the Los Angeles, San Diego, Tucson and Phoenix areas. That’s because 1. The car was receiving a fair amount of press during that time, as it went from concept car to actual car and 2. The car was only released for leasing in those areas.
Awareness of the EV1 has probably increased in recent years due to the release of the film “Who Killed the Electric Car?” in 2006. However, the subject isn’t all that mainstream. The film catered largely to a niche environmentalist market, and many people still don’t know about the EV1.
