How much does coal contribute to climate change?

“Emissions from U.S. coal combustion comprise 36% of all CO2 emissions and nearly 10% of the entire globe’s CO2 emissions.” Carbon dioxide emissions from coal are also the fastest growing portion of U.S. emissions, having increased 20% since 1990. Though this may be a troubling matter, it is quite hard to contend with since our country relies on coal for half of its electric power needs.
