How much energy does an average vacuum cleaner consume?

One chart has vaccum cleaners rated at 753 watts. My vaccum cleaner says it is rated at 9 amps, and it is plugged into a standard outlet that pushes 120 volts — so since Watts = Amps x Volts  it means it consumes about 1080 watts of energy. So apparently my vaccum cleaner is pretty much a sucker of not only dirt, it sucks up more energy than it needs to as well!
