With hospital sizes ranging in size and occupancy, it’s difficult to provide an estimate on an individual basis. However, a 2006 report from Hospitals for a Healthy Environment stated that 6600 tons of waste per day came from hospitals. Much of this waste came from disposable products and their packaging. Since then, the organization has been recognized by the EPA for their remarkable efforts in reducing hospital waste and unnecessary use of nonbiodegradable materials.
