Hopefully a lot less than it used to. While I like ethics just fine and totally believe environmental ethics are a worthwhile cause. The benefits of sustainable building sustainably outweigh the (now minimal) added expenses of making a building or business more sustainable. The US Green Building Council, which developed the well-known LEED standards for buildings and homes, estimates that building a more efficient home or building adds about 3% to 4% to the cost of building. However, through decreased use of energy (electricity, heating and cooling) and water, the additional costs quickly pay for themselves in savings.
I totally agree with you, ethics should no longer play as big of a role as they used too. The benefits are just so great that people should no longer have a reason not to do it.
